Project 1
Russia, Crude Oil Tracker
About the project
This project was done as a part of the Information Visualization Studio at Northeastern University.
Since the Russia-Ukraine war, Russia's crude oil resources have garnered worldwide attention. Crude oil, a resource that continues to dominate the market despite the rise of clean energy, plays a significant role in the global economy and politics.
Regardless of our personal sentiments towards Russia, it is worthwhile to delve into an understanding of this country.
Tools
Excel, Flourish (a data visualization platform), Illustrator
Work process
research the topic — collect data — clean the data — make data charts — design the layout
Design decisions
1. The color scheme is inspired by the color of crude oil and the Russian flag
2. Use red color to highlight the most important information
3. Create a clear hierarchy to help readers navigate an info-heavy chart
-

About the project
More and more Chinese billionaires have joined the Forbes Global Billionaire List over the past few decades, and China has become the second-biggest billionaire home country since 2018. The feature of the richest Chinese to some degree reflects the features of China’s economy.
This data visualization project aims to answer the following questions: What kind of people are China's billionaires? How did they make their way? Has the increase of the rich raised inequality?
